Had to rip out the scarf and start over - I dropped a stitch and then it was also too wide.

I'm using Crystal Palace (http://www.straw.com/cpy/yarns/iceland.html) 7255 Lilac Combo, 7258 Ocean, 2801 Purple, and some Danish Bulky Bernat which you can't find anywhere anymore (I bought it in 1986for $1.50 because it was soft and fuzzy and in the discount bin, but being yarn ignorant, only bought one 2 oz. skein - little did I know there's not much you can do with one skein)

Liking the Iceland. The colors are rich and it feels so good to knit with. I love the way it feels going through my fingers. I haven't told Jesse this scarf is hers, but she's been eyeing it and when she thinks I'm not looking, she touches it!

Hey - purling is actually easy! Go figure! I am making a ribbed scarf - 2x2 rib - and the yarns blend really nicely. I'm so excited. Having thoughts of making a hat to match - how hard can that be?

10.01.2004

Oooh! There's a yarn shop in the next town over! The last one went out of business a few years ago, and I found this one by accident after a disastrous trip to Walmart and Joanne Fabrics. I say disastrous because I did not really want to mix acrylic with the chunky wool I had. Even I, a novice knitter, couldn't really make a scark out of acrylic and chunky wool . . . could I?

Soo, this new yarn shop - the owner is really nice, not a knitting nazi. I know, it's so, unPC of me to say, but you know the type. When you walk into the store they look at you with that look and judge you as 'the unclean'. You know not of guage swatches and intarsia (what the hell is that?), you can neither knit with circular or double-pointed(just the thought of that gives me fits). You should crawl back to the primitive cave you came from and not darken the door anymore. But this woman, who just happens to be named Cynthia - a lovely name -, was so helpful. And she's got so many pretty yarns. And they feel so nice. And lots and lots of bamboo needles (ooohhh). I feel so . . . hopeful!

So, for Jesse's scarf, I picked up some Crystal Palace Iceland. Three different kinds of purple to go with the greyish Bernat I had and some size 13 needles to knit it on. And I bought a book - Stitch and Bitch because the explanations are so understandable. I think I'll be purling in no time!
